The Hockey Hall of Fame has officially unveiled its class of 2024, featuring an impressive lineup of seven distinguished individuals set to be inducted on November 11, 2024. This year's inductees include five players and two builders, each of whom has made significant contributions to the sport.
Player Inductees
Leading the group of players is Jeremy Roenick, a remarkable talent who spent 20 seasons in the NHL across five different franchises. Roenick left an indelible mark on the league, amassing 513 goals and 703 assists over 1,363 games. Among American-born players, he ranks fourth in goals and fifth in points, a testament to his scoring prowess and consistency.
Pavel Datsyuk, famously known as "The Magic Man," played 14 stellar seasons with the Detroit Red Wings. Datsyuk's defensive and offensive skills earned him the Selke Trophy, awarded to the best defensive forward, on three consecutive occasions from 2008 to 2010. Over his career, he netted 314 goals and provided 604 assists in 953 games, while also winning two Stanley Cup championships, solidifying his legacy as one of hockey’s greats.
Shea Weber, another formidable presence on the ice, split his 16-year career between the Nashville Predators and the Montreal Canadiens. With 224 goals and 365 assists to his name, Weber was a three-time finalist for the Norris Trophy, awarded to the league’s top defenseman. His leadership was instrumental in guiding the Canadiens to the Stanley Cup Final in 2020, a testament to his impact both on and off the ice.
The class also celebrates the achievements of Natalie Darwitz and Krissy Wendell-Pohl, both pioneers in women's hockey. Darwitz led the University of Minnesota to a national championship in 2005, where she netted the game-winning goal against Harvard. Her international career is decorated with two Olympic silver medals and one bronze, as well as three golds and five silvers at the World Championships.
Similarly, Wendell-Pohl had an illustrious career, playing 147 games internationally and scoring 106 goals. She earned an Olympic silver and bronze, and was pivotal in leading Team USA to a gold medal at the World Championships in 2005, where she also earned tournament MVP honors.
Builder Inductees
David Poile, the winningest general manager in NHL history with 1,533 regular-season victories, will be inducted for his vast contributions to the game. Poile spent his entire managerial career with the Nashville Predators until his retirement last year. Under his guidance, the Predators made their first Stanley Cup Final appearance in 2017, a landmark achievement for the franchise.
Colin Campbell, whose multifaceted career in hockey spans decades, also joins the Hall of Fame as a builder. Campbell played 11 seasons in the NHL and won a Stanley Cup as an assistant coach with the New York Rangers in 1994. He later served as the Rangers' head coach for four seasons. For the past 25 years, Campbell has held the role of Executive Vice President for the NHL, significantly influencing the league's operations and strategic direction.
